Program

MIEX is a unique and innovative learning experience that distinguishes itself through its strong academic alliances and professional on-the-field experiences.

Year One

Mastering the key fundamentals of international management

The aim of the First Year is directed at mastering the key fundamentals of international management practices in order to create a sound knowledge base. The first year is divided in two academic semesters consisting of 10 core modules  (230 hours) and more than 200 hours of Complementary Teaching Activities: from September to December at the ICN Business School – Nancy (France) and from January to April at the UNIBO campuses in Forlì and Bologna (Italy).

At the end of the Italian semester, Fast Track students finish the program with an In-Company internship and a Final Exam, while MSc students work in teams on Field Work projects for companies. Upon successful completion of the first year, all students (Fast Track and MSc Track) earn the MIEX “Master Universitario di Primo Livello”, a professional Master degree issued by the University of Bologna (60 ECTS).

Year Two

Specialization

MIEX’s modular structure allows students to tailor their experience to best suit the needs of their professional aspirations and goals. The 2 year Master of Science Track allows students to specialize in a specific area at one of our Partner Universities:

All second year hosting Universities except ICN Berlin offer both an “MSc Standard Track” and a “Triple Degree Track” that require at least one academic semester followed by a Project Work or a Master Thesis. At ICN Berlin students may choose two different academic specializations in either Marketing or Finance and go for the “Triple Degree Track” with two academic semesters followed by an Internship and Master Thesis. Students from all tracks must discuss in front of a board of examiners their project work or master thesis as a final exam in order to complete the Master..

Students who successfully complete the second year earn the “Master Universitario di I livello” degree issued by Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna at the end of Y1, the “MSc in International Management (MIM)” issued by ICN Business School (120 ECTS) and the certificate issued by the 2nd year Partner University. The third optional degree issued by the second year host University depends on the track choices made by the student, some of which are subject to extra fees and/or additional course work.

Practical Work Activities

Professional development experiences in the field

MIEX offers stimulating in-class, academic activities accompanied by a series of professional development experiences in the field: company visits, business games, internships and project work activities which allow students to come immediately into contact with the world of work. Each Practical Work Activity (PWA) ends with a written report and a final presentation evaluated and graded by a Board of Examiners.

Each PWA is designed and tailored according to the MIEX requirements and includes the following:

Internship

In-company Internships are individual assignments reserved for Fast Track students at the end of the second semester in Year 1.

Under the supervision of a company advisor, students must complete an in-company project on the company’s internationalization process.

The internship is worth 12 ECTS and must last at least 3 months between the months of April and September.

Field Work

The Field Work Research is designed for students enrolled in the two-year Master of Science track at the end of Year 1.

It involves group research projects on issues regarding international management, commissioned by MIEX partner companies to be carried during April-August, just before students leave for their second year destinations.

Project Work

MSc students finish their academic work in January and must then complete either a Master Thesis or an individual, in-company project lasting at least 6 months during their second semester.

MIEX project work activities are structured as internationalization projects to be done on behalf of host companies under the supervision of a company advisor and with the support of an academic tutor.
